The Story Behind McClure's
We recently got to see inside the McClure’s Pickles factory in Detroit, Michigan! Don’t worry, we weren’t ignoring the COVID restrictions and somehow managing to travel overseas in a time of isolation - Joe McClure himself sent us some behind the scenes snaps of what goes on to bring you the best pickles. Although we can’t wait until these COVID travel restrictions lift so that we can visit the new McClure’s Pickles factory in the US in person, looking through photos of how these renowned pickles get made and packaged had us drooling. Just thinking about the perfect crunch of their whole pickles, or the buttery sweetness of their bread and butter pickles and looking at pictures of workers busily making sure every jar is packed with the utmost care was enough to have us drooling!
We know you probably recognise the McClure’s Pickles labels or jars of fresh pickles from your pantry, your favourite local pub, or in the aisles at the supermarket, but did you know the McClure’s brand pickles are locally grown, packaged, and brined in the US and shipped here. So rest assured, you are eating a genuine American staple pickle right here in Australia.
In 2006, brothers Joe and Bob McClure started McClure’s Pickles after years of making pickles using their great grandmother Lala’s recipe. They learned how to make the pickles from their grandfather and parents and now continue that tradition just outside of Detroit, Michigan.
They use as much local produce as possible when it is in season and when it's not, they call up the farms and speak directly with the growers to know where their produce is coming from and how it is being grown, making sure they are getting some of the best and freshest produce available. Every cucumber is hand sliced and hand packed in their own factory, not from a private labeller. So not only can you enjoy these delightfully crunchy, super fresh and flavourful American pickles imported straight form the US - you can also sleep easy knowing that what you’re eating is supporting farms and growers of the cucumbers being used.
As an absolute ripper of a bonus, their products, including all of their signature McClure’s pickles are actually all-natural, vegan, gluten-free, and kosher certified. How good is that?
If you’re after a truly next level experience when making homemade burgers, loaded toasties, hotdogs, or even just looking for the ultimate accompaniment to your next BBQ - try McClure’s pickles. The next time you see McClure’s being used at your local, or even just on our website here, make sure to grab yourself some for an authentic American pickle experience!
